/EIN News/-Danbury, Connecticut, December 30, 2019 (Global News Service)-Fuel Cell Energy Corporation (NASDAQ: FCEL) is providing clean, innovative and affordable fuel A global leader in battery solutions, recently announced the start of commercial operation of a 2.8 MW fuel cell project at a wastewater treatment facility in Tulare, California. This milestone is a 50-year innovation in optimizing SureSource power plant applications for on-site renewable fuel power generation.
In 2003, the company's first commercial power plants started using biogas. The first 250 kW system was run using biogas at the Kirin Brewery in Japan. A year later, the company launched the first prototype of today's 1.4MW SureSource 1500 at the King County Wastewater Treatment Plant in Renton, Washington. In the following years, the company deployed more than 20 MW of renewable biogas fuel cell systems in wastewater treatment facilities, agricultural facilities, and breweries in California and around the world, resulting in the recently commissioned 2.8 MW Tulare project and ongoing The 1.4 MW San Bernardino project developed.

The World Biogas Association estimates that the global potential of wastewater and landfill gas opportunities is 40-50 times that of the United States, and the agricultural potential is more than 200 times that of the United States. 2 Currently, only a small part of the potential is used for power generation, which means that methane from biogas is emitted or burned, which has a negative impact on the environment.
