Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)'s subsidiary Nigeria Gas Marketing Company (NGMC) and Axxela Limited's subsidiary Transit Gas Nigeria Limited have signed an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract for construction in Ajaokuta, Kogi 5MMSCFD small-scale LNG plant, this is the first stage of 20MMSCFD development.

At the official signing ceremony, CEO Mr. Axxela Mr. Bolaji Osunsanya said: "This official signing ceremony is an important milestone for us. We are very happy to cross this important milestone in the development of this multi-faceted virtual pipeline.

With the recent announcement of the "Natural Gas Decade" by the Nigerian Federal Government, we believe that cooperation of this nature is very important for realizing the government's aspirations. With all hands-on operations, the project is on the right basis and can be completed in time, unlocking value for the stakeholders and Nigeria as a country. "

The natural gas liquefaction project is in line with Axxela's mission to provide innovative solutions to create sustainable and efficient energy use for the benefit of all stakeholders. The project is located in the strategic center of Ajaokuta, close to the northern market, and will serve stranded industrial and commercial customers who currently use diesel and similar fuels and help them improve their competitive advantage. It will also become a catalyst for further industrialization and open the use of cheaper, cleaner and more environmentally friendly fuels in areas without natural gas pipeline infrastructure.

NNPC Group Executive Director/CFO Mallam Umar Isa Ajiya, on behalf of NNPC Group’s Managing Director Mallam Mele Kyari, said: “As a government, natural gas is still Nigeria’s transitional fuel, so this agenda is a welcome development for anyone looking for addition. This is a very important project that will help reduce the challenges of using natural gas in rural areas. Given Nigeria’s rich natural gas resources, the successful completion of this project will further enhance the government’s natural gas utilization plan."

The mini-LNG project is a joint venture between NNPC's natural gas marketing subsidiary NGMC, which has decades of experience in natural gas distribution and marketing, Axxela subsidiary Transit Gas, and a joint venture operator. It has extensive experience in natural gas infrastructure development and distribution. This combined pedigree will enable projects to be successfully executed safely and effectively while maintaining global best practices.
